Sir Gerald Kaufman to discuss Kashmir issue with PM Brown

LONDON: A peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue was crucial for the world peace and it could only be achieved through the implementation of United Nations’ Resolutions aimed at giving people of Kashmir Right of Self Determination and by stopping   human rights violations of worst kind by Indian security forces. This was observed by the participants of the meeting held at the Pakistan High Commission London to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir on Friday, February 5.

The meeting to express solidarity with  People of Kashmir was chaired by  Pakistan High Commissioner to UK  Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan  and attended by  British  MP  Sir Gerald  Kaufman,  Executive Director  Justice Foundation  professor Nazir Shawl and  number  of  prominent Kashmiri leaders including , Chairman Kashmir Liberation Front Prof. Zafar  Khan , President All Parties Kashmir Coordination Committee Dr. Misfar  Hasan,  Sec, Gen,  Muslim Conference  Zaheer Kiyani, Former MLA Ch. And even today all the political parties in Pakistan stand united in support of Kashmir cause. He also called upon Kashimiri leaders to  foster greater  unity among themselves   for  achieving the  goal of  self  determination for  People of Kashmir as unity among  all the parties and groups of  Kashmiris was the key  to the success of this cause  Mr. Hasan added,

Sir Gerald Kaufman in his address said that he will discuss the issue of Kashmir on top of the agenda in his meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, expected next week.  He said that UK and US are concerned with the situation particularly for its bearings on stability and economy of Pakistan which was essential for the peace of entire region. He asserted that UN resolutions on Kashmir remain valid and peaceful resolution of the issue was possible only through the implementation of these resolutions.   Sir Gerald Kaufmann also shared his painful experiences of his visits to Kashmir where he was able to observe worst kind of violations of rights of people. He said about 5,000 to 6.000 Indian troops were deployed in Indian held Kashmir which is enormous strain on an extremely poor country where a large number of population was living below poverty line.

Professor Nazir Shawl Executive Director of Justice Foundation expressed gratitude to government and people of Pakistan for their continued support to the cause of Kashmir and determined solidarity with the Kashmiri People. He reiterated to continue the struggle for Kashmir and expressed concern over ongoing human rights violations while informing that three Kashmiri leaders have been detained by Indian forces on the eve of Solidarity Day. He said that India claims itself a democracy but the suppression of rights of people of Kashmir proves otherwise.

On this occasion messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan issued on the Kashmir Solidarity Day were also read out by the Head of Chancery Aftab Hasan Khan.
