Filmmaking for Social Change, 2010 will provide
thirty young filmmakers from Karachi and Lahore the opportunity to
produce ten films that will be shown at the London International Documentary
Film Festival (LIDF) in May.
These documentaries will raise awareness in the UK
and Pakistan.
The project will provide young Pakistani filmmakers with access to an
international platform to showcase the voices and stories of ordinary Pakistani
people. It will give a platform to real people and their demand for positive
change in their lives.
As part of the project, a "Pakistan National Short Film Competition"
will also be held. This is an open competition to all young Pakistani
filmmakers throughout the country on the same themes.
The winning film from this competition,
and the films produced through the Filmmaking for Social Change 2010 project
will be shown at the LIDF, broadcast on Pakistan
national television channels, and at screenings throughout Pakistan. The
films will also be available for viewing online through the website: www.filmmakingforsocialchange.com
, which will also feature regular blogs throughout the project.
The British High Commission is launching the project in collaboration with a
local partner, Eckova, and the London International
Documentary Festival.
Further information
This is the second year of this project. It was
first launched in 2009, and had great success. Four films produced by young
Pakistani film students, and two winning films from the National Short Film
Competition were screened at the LIDF-2009, followed by an interesting debate
between the Pakistani filmmakers and the British audience.
Last year's films can be viewed here.
Regular updates on the project will appear on the official website, www.filmmakingforsocialchange.com
, and on the Facebook Fan Page.
