Operation Madad executed by Pakistan Navy

  

London: A tropical cyclone PHET presently about 1000 Kilometres south west of Karachi is moving north west with the speed of 8 Nautical Miles. It is expected to hit coast of Oman in about next 12 hours and may dissipate or re-curve in north easterly direction to hit off Makran Coast and Karachi on 7 or 8 June 2010 depending upon speed and direction of the cyclone.

 

Taking no chances Pakistan Navy has executed “Operation Madad” in full swing, under the special instructions of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir, and has placed its resources on high alert to provide all necessary assistance against the upcoming cyclone. In this regard emergency organization all along the coastal belt has been activated by Pakistan Navy. Air sorties are planned to provide search and rescue. In addition, ships and craft have been put on high alert to meet any eventuality at sea. Local fishermen in coordination with fisheries are being advised to return to harbour.

 

Emergency relief canters all along the coast have been activated to ensure safety of all the public along the coastal belt and at sea through “Operation Madad” to provide all out support. Besides this, medical teams along with requisite medical facilities have been stationed at different locations along the coast. Commander Pakistan Fleet and Commander Coastal Command have issued necessary instructions to all units under command to undertake post disaster relief operation in a befitting manner. Commander Karachi has also activated emergency response centre to provide necessary assistance at Karachi.
