Pakistani mango showcase at Harrods
London: A three week long promotion of
Pakistani mangoes has been launched at the Food Hall of one of the
world’s leading departmental store Harrods on 7 June 2010.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK
Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan and Federal Secretary Commerce Mr. Zafar Mahmood
inaugurated the event that has been organized jointly by Pakistan High
Commission London and Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company.
Speaking on the occasion Pakistan’s
High Commissioner emphasized the need of more concerted efforts for the marking
and promotion of Pakistani products worldwide. He said that Pakistan’s
exports to UK have seen an upward trend despite recession. He said that mango from
Pakistan was being imported to UK in large quantities and the purpose of
organizing this promotion event was to broaden the market of this exotic fruit
by displaying it at a store which is visited by a large number of people from
all over the world every day.
Secretary Commerce Mr. Zafar Mahmood
highlighted the efforts being undertaken by the Ministry of Commerce and other
organizations for enhancing Pakistani exports.
Pakistan is the fifth largest producer and
third largest exporter of mango and exports 80% of its produce.
