Instrumental for Community Cohesion: Wajid
Education can play an instrumental
role in forging greater community cohesion by creating
better understanding between the communities in a multi
cultural country like UK and there was a need to
encourage institutions that could serve as a role
model for promotion of higher education among
various communities . High Commissioner for Pakistan to the
UK Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan expressed these views on
the occasion of graduation ceremony of London College
of Business, Management and Information Technology
(LCBMIT) here , today.
The High Commissioner said Pakistan
is facing various challenges as it is fighting war
against terrorism for the last thirty years and
assistance from international community as well as
Pakistani Diaspora would be of great value in improving
the quality of education in Pakistan. He said
that in Pakistan education sector needs attention
and improvement adding that educated Pakistanis
can also help in removing misperceptions about
Pakistan. Referring to Wali Muhammad Trust Scholarships
the High Commissioner informed that the
recipients of this scholarship are Ph.D
students in hard sciences and most of them were
engaged in extra ordinary fields of research.
Awards were also given
to teachers , students and community leaders for
their outstanding performances in the relevant
fields. Special Award for
community engagement was given to Mr. Ahsan
Pasha. The principal of the College Mr. Toaha Qureshi and other speakers
emphasized significance of education for
integration of communities and checking extremism and
terrorism .
