Return of dislocated persons to their homes in Swat and Malakand

As of 4 August 2009, some 33 percent (or 765,000 individuals) of the over 2.3 million verified dislocated persons have returned to their homes.  The vast majority (29.5 percent) have returned to Swat District followed by over 80,000 people who have returned to Buner. Four additional camps have closed bringing the total number of closed camps to nine since the return process began. Dislocated persons residing with host families now stand at about 1.2 million with 166,785 dislocated people living in the 21 remaining camps. Efforts are afoot to complete the return process as soon as possible.
