Return
of dislocated persons to their homes in Swat and Malakand

August 2009, some 33 percent (or 765,000 individuals) of the over 2.3 million
verified dislocated persons have returned to their homes. The vast majority (29.5 percent) have
returned to Swat District followed by over 80,000 people who have returned to
Buner. Four additional camps have closed bringing the total number of closed
camps to nine since the return process began. Dislocated persons residing with
host families now stand at about 1.2 million with 166,785 dislocated people
living in the 21 remaining camps. Efforts are afoot to complete the return
process as soon as possible.
